What Does GDP per Capita Mean?
GDP per capita is calculated by dividing a country's gross domestic product (GDP) by its population.
It represents the average economic output per person, expressed here in current US dollars. Because it uses current prices and exchange rates, the measure can change due to economic growth, inflation and currency movements.
GDP per capita is not the same as average salary, household income or personal wealth. It also does not show how evenly income is distributed among a population.
